Timber Warehouse Improvements

Date: 06/08/2010

Dempsey Dyer have completed the integration of new timber warehouse improvements in their latest project to increase production efficiencies. These improvements will provide significant increases in the efficiency of timber retrieval ready for production. Two investments have been made as part of these improvements, the first being a Combilift multi-directional forklift and the second being a bespoke installation of cantilever racking for timber goods storage.

Previously, timber packs had been stored on other timber packs from different species. This provided a bottleneck in the retrieval of timber goods as additional timber packs had to be moved in an attempt to reach the required timber specie.

The new cantilever racking allows for gaps to be left between each timber pack which therefore allows the new counter-balance to extract the required timber pack without the need for relocating other packs first. Each arm is capable of carrying 1000kg of timber, providing the ability to store several tonnes of timber across several arms.

Combilift Counter Balance

Dempsey Dyer's new cantilever racking system has been designed to a bespoke specification by a Pro-Dek Storage Systems design team who have also performed the installation to completion within five days.

The new Combilift counter-balance provides a multi-directional solution for handling long loads in confined areas. The counter-balance can be used both internally and externally making it the ideal purchase for Dempsey Dyer to collate and transport timber materials from warehouse to factory. The patented 4 way steering system allows all three wheels to turn automatically helping to provide excellent manoeuvrability.

The cantilever racking system and new Combilift counter-balance have been designed and implemented to work together in a bid to help and drive internal efficiencies.

The above purchases are part of a chain of investments to transform the timber production department into a highly efficient and automated unit helping to achieve a lean manufacturing environment.
