Precision Manufacturing with Weinig Machinery
Date: 17/01/2011
During 2010, Dempsey Dyer has increased its precision manufacturing capability through the use of Weinig machinery products.
With 'durability by design' and 'a way forward for sustainability' being key areas of focus for Dempsey Dyer, precision window, door and conservatory manufacturing plays an important role in delivering superior products that provide years of trouble free experience for the customer.
A selection of Weinig machinery products were introduced to the timber production factory last year with further installations planned for 2011. Last year saw the installation of a Powermat 500 (seven head moulder with universal head and fully controlled CNC PowerCom memory system), a Dimter S50 (self optimising, label printing, CNC controlled cross cut saw) and a selection of state-of-the-art tool room machinery products including a Rondamat profile grinder and OptiControl tool measuring stand.
Tom Dyer, Managing Director of Dempsey Dyer had the following to say about the investment in Weinig machinery; "We invested in Weinig specialist machinery because they are well engineered, durable, reliable and provide a first class service, and they believe in giving the customer a total support service, including training and backup solutions to technical problems, making a reliable production partner."
The Powermat 500 provides a high quality moulding finish at 8000 rpm which provides 33% more production than a conventional moulder. The moulder is quick, easy, safe to set up and has an optional working width of 12 inches. The Powermat 500 is ideal for precision manufacturing short run bespoke profile orders to meet or exceed urgent customer requirements.
The Dimter S50 features state-of-the-art cross cutting technology. This machine is highly accurate, flexible and fast, making it possible to manufacture any timber length in the shortest possible time. In addition, the Dimter S50 features timber cutting technology that self optimises to reduce waste to a minimum. All cut pieces can also be labelled on a label printer situated at the output of the saw for improved tracking and identification. Labelling has proved to be a perfect solution to piece part recognition problems (especially where length differences may be just a few millimetres). Cutting lists are linked to the label printer which produces labels for each cut piece. The label can carry a selection of information including; the customer's name, timber cut size, description, or any other useful information associated with the job.
The heart of Dempsey Dyer's moulding system is in its tool room. Dempsey Dyer has installed the top of the range Rondamat 960 profile grinder and the OptiControl tool measuring stand from Weinig. These items produce high precision tooling for quick and easy installation on the moulder with the additional means of producing bespoke tooling for any profile. High precision tooling, together with quality moulders, ensures the high degree of manufacturing accuracy and finish that differentiates Dempsey Dyer products from others.
The significant investment in Weinig machinery during 2010 is the first step to a highly automated and lean manufacturing environment for timber window, door and conservatory products. Further plans to introduce a new CNC machine centre are in motion and once complete this will provide Dempsey Dyer with an increased timber production capacity whilst also improving manufacturing accuracy.
